I was delighted that my submission for 'a walk to make others smile' was selected for inclusion in The Walkbook: Recipes for walking & wellbeing.
This beautiful book (available for free download here) was created with the intention to provide people – individuals and groups – with inspiration to walk, and to keep on walking. It's produced by Walking Publics/Walking Arts at the University of Glasgow, which is a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The team are exploring the potential of the arts to sustain, encourage and more equitably support walking during and recovering from a pandemic. They say:
We hope that our research will help us understand how creative walking activities have been and could be used to mitigate isolation and anxiety, maintain health and wellbeing, enhance social connectivity, and facilitate cultural participation and empowerment.
The book is full of creative inspiration, and well worth a browse. If you do try out my recipe for a walk to make others smile, I'd love to see a photo of your creation - do share them here.
